- Imagine you graduate high school, and you're given 10 billion dollars. What kind of life would you want to live? Describe it, and explain it.
- "the last great american dynasty" by Taylor Swift
- This is a good song, but what matters is that all songs are a form of poetry (even if Taylor Swift isn't your jam). We can search for connotation in anything we hear!
- Historical context - this song is about Rebekah Harkness
- Exploring the lyrics
- Note the contrast between "saltbox house" and "Holiday House"
- Note the switch in tone after her husband died
- Note the connection she is making between herself and Rebekah Harkness
- Questions to consider (these are helpful to prepare for the test in two weeks)
- What might a thematic statement be that applies to the song? "Sometimes, ____ can _______"
- What literary terms do you see? Consider imagery, alliteration, assonance, symbolism, metaphor
- What is your opinion of the song?
