Hello! Here's what we're up to today:
Face to Face
- Silent Reading
- Checking in - How are you feeling today?
- Recap of last class.
- Literary Terms (Lesson Notes)
- Theme
- Thematic Statement
- Protagonist/Antagonist
- Characterization
- Irony
- Tone
- Freewrite to practice characterization.
- Discussion: How accurate do you think the story was? How do you feel about companies that are similar to Multivac today (Microsoft, Google, Amazon, etc)?
- Background on Sci Fi in the 1950s
- Background on computing - consider Moore's Law
- Activity on "All the Troubles of the World"
- Create a "plot structure" graph, listing key details from the story
- Describe our future, in 70 years. What benefits do we have, and what rights have we lost?
- Create a thematic statement for the short story.
- Who are some of the characters in the story? Consider what they say and do (not a lot of physical descriptions in the story). What do those things (indirect characterization) tell us about what kind of people they are?
- In what way does the story demonstrate irony?
- Recapping P1. How might you use these two texts for that project?
- Tomorrow, we'll be watching 1/2 of the Matrix.
