Hello! Here's what we're up to today:

Face to Face

  • Checking in
  • Freewrite + Discussion question: Do you think the idea of "truth" is more or less clear than in the past? Is it getting easier or harder to determine what is true?
  • Recap of A5
  • Presentation on Fake News and Conspiracy theories, by Ms. Paulsen. Here's another presentation form Ms. Paulsen, with resources for evaluating sources.
    • Discussion: Consider what the video says about fake news: it finds and makes worse the existing "cracks" in society. What "cracks" might your story make worse? Do you think the conspiracy theory you chose might be fake news? Why?
  • Time for Assignment 5
    • Your goal by the end of the lesson is to find two reputable sources discussing the conspiracy theory. Look especially for its origin, and for fact-checkers. Ms. Paulsen is a great resource for this!
    • Write down your rough answers for A, B, and C
  • For tomorrow, please read this article. We'll be discussing the conspiracy theory of QAnon, and how some conspiracy theories present dangers.
