Hello! Here's what we're up to today:
English 8
- Take a few moments to complete your response to yesterday's Socratic Circle, and hand it in. You may email it if you prefer.
- Freewrite - respond to this prompt by writing for ten minutes. Afterwards, share what you wrote with a partner, and if you're comfortable, with the class:
- "Wait," they said, gulping for air. "You need to know the truth!"
- Time for your project or to read ahead in The Hunger Games
- For tomorrow, read Chapters 19-21
- FIT is in 133 today!
English 9
- Quick note: Fire alarm at 155 today.
- Class discussion: Social media does more harm than good. Do you agree or disagree?
- Freewrite - respond to this prompt by writing for ten minutes. When you're done, share your ideas with a partner, and if you're comfortable, with the class:
- Flesh out your ideas by considering this concept: You wake up tomorrow and all social media platforms have disappeared and can never return. Is that a better or a worse world?
- Yesterday, I asked you to examine the charts on this website, and pick interesting fact from a chart, and then offer one opinion. Take a moment to prepare your response, then gather in groups of 4-5. Share the point you found, and decide together what the most interesting data point was, and why. Share your response with the class.
- Take a few minutes to revisit the details on Project 5. Choose a topic to explore, and begin an initial brainstorm or search online for ideas. Tomorrow, be prepared to share with the class the angle you want to take for the project.
- For tomorrow, read this excerpt from "The Dangerous Experiment on Teen Girls." Highlight one quote you find interesting, and prepare a question for discussion based on that quote. Tomorrow, we'll complete a Socratic Circle where you'll gather feedback from several other students, and submit a summary to the teacher. You may use class time to read this, if possible.
