September 7, 2022

Hello everyone! Here's what we're up to today:

Homeroom

  • Attendance
  • Returned forms
  • Review School Expectations on pages 11-13
  • Remember to hand back all forms!

English 9

  • Introducing myself
  • Evacuation Route
  • Introducing yourself: Make a card
    • Write the name you would like me to use in BIG BLOCK LETTERS, as well as your pronoun
    • I'm going to ask you a boring question: What would you like to tell me about yourself? To prepare for this, draw something that represents that idea.
      • If that question is too large, you can answer this one: if you were marooned on a desert island, with escape unlikely, what's ONE object you would bring?
    • On the inside, or back of the page, write me a note with any questions, thoughts, or concerns you have about the year. This could include:
      • What are you worried about?
      • What mental/health concerns do you want to put on my radar?
      • What are you hopeful for or worried about in the course?
      • Is there an IEP or anything you want to make sure I know about?
      • Any other note you'd like me to know
    • I'll be making a class map of everyone, so for the first few days, please stay put until I really memorize each of you. After that, there will be some fluidity in seating.
  • Activity: Asking questions
  • Resources to explore:
    • The class blog (note: lessons are updated every day, so if you are absent for awhile, you're expected to keep up)
    • The calendar
    • The assignment page
    • Expectations and grading policies
  • For tomorrow: come to class with an idea for a book you may want to do for your Independent Novel Study. Details will be provided. For the first few days, we'll be doing silent reading to start classes.
  • First shot at names
