Feb 6, 2023

Hello! Here's what we're up to today:

New Media 10

  • Checking in! Here's how this works:
    • Every lesson (with some exceptions), we'll be doing a check in.
    • The purpose of a check in is to share where you're at emotionally, and what's on your mind.
    • You'll be asked to share how you're feeling on a scale of 1 to 5
      • 1 is a brutal, awful day
      • 5 is an incredibly great day
    • I'll ask you to add a thought. This might be:
      • Why you're feeling what you're feeling?
      • What's going on in your world?
      • What are you wondering about?
    • We can also get into discussion or debate questions during check in
  • Hey look, granola bars!
    • These are for if you're hungry. Please remember that if you're taking one, you're taking one away from a student who needs it in the future, so take one with caution and kindness to others.
  • Getting to know each other
    • Make a card!

      • Show the name you would like me to use in BIG BLOCK LETTERS
      • Include your pronouns
      • Write or draw something that interests you (and which I can ask about)
      • On the back, include this information:
        • When it comes to how you operate in the world, what would you like me to know?
          • This might include pronouns that shift, anxieties that affect you, what your passions are, or nothing at all
        • Is there any information you'd like me to know right away?
          • This might include IEPs, difficulty at home, questions about the course, or nothing at all
    • In groups, ask me a question about me
      • Some formats: would you rather ______ or ________, what is the best _______ ever, what is your opinion on _______________
      • What I'm looking for is:
        • To start the process of getting to know each other
        • For me to start learning about the personality of the class
        • To encourage curiosity
    • In turn, I'll ask you a question about yourself. I'll either ask something specific, or I'll ask: what would you like to tell me about yourself?
  • Day 1 on Black History Month
  • Getting started on assignments
    • Your first in-class writing assignment
    • Your Independent Novel Study project
