Nov 23, 2021

Hello! Sorry I won't be there again today. Here's what we're up to:

English 8

  • Activity on Chapters 1-3 of The Hunger Games
    • In groups of 2-3, answer these questions. We'll discuss them in class tomorrow:
      • What are specific ways in which this book is similar and different so far from The Outsiders.
      • Choose a character. Offer 2-3 specific examples of characterization (how do they appear, act, and speak)
      • What is a thematic statement that applies to the novel so far?
      • In what way do you see life in The Hunger Games as similar to our society? Choose one way, and explain.
    • On your own, choose one quote from the first three chapters, and come up with a question for discussion. We'll do a Socratic Circle tomorrow, where you'll discuss what you found.
  • Freewrite
    • Write for ten minutes on the following prompt: Dystopia (Ms. Bacchus will explain what this means)
    • Share what you wrote with your peers, if you'd like
  • The remaining time may be spent
    • Reading ahead (4-6 for tomorrow, including the student presentation)
