Feb 17, 2022

Hello! Here's what we're up to today:

English 12

  • Checking in
  • Recapping the last two days
  • Literary terms
    • Imagery
    • Update to Thematic Statement
  • Context for today's lesson: asking forgiveness, not permission
  • Discussion: When you think of Indigenous Art, what do you think of?

  • Revisiting the calendar
  • Time to start on Q1 and P1
    • For Q1, the best thing you can do is try to apply each literary term to each text.
    • For P1, your goal is to walk into Monday with the text(s) you'd like to explore, and an idea of how you'll tweak the thematic statement.
    • Note: Your class notes must be unique. Any two students with the same notes will have both removed.
  • Handing back Assignment 1. Some things to bear in mind:
    • Recap of rubric
    • This is our first interaction, in terms of marking. As I said before, let me know if you're feeling disappointed, and we'll make this a dialogue.
    • You have the right to a challenge, as well as a redo. Come talk to me about how that works.
    • My writing sucks. Sorry about that.
    • The circles/underlines means there's a mistake there. I'd like you to try to figure out what the problem is first (it's usually a comma), and then come ask about it.
    • English and "Low Floor, High Ceiling."
  • Tuesday, we'll come back to the conversation on Assignment 2, and you'll have time to prepare for both Q1 and P1

  • "The Lake Isle of Innisfree"

    • Background on WB Yeats
    • My own personal connection, and the connection to P1 (it's a little murky)
    • Reading the poem
    • Activity
    • Freewrite
